Multi-GPU - a different approach

Time and time again, the recommendation from people in the know, as far as multi-GPU approaches from ATi and nVidia (Crossfire and SLI respectively) go, is to avoid as there's issues. Fairly substantial ones, at that.

For a game to be multi-GPU compatible, it needs to have the appropriate code in the game to allow the cards to play nice, the drivers need to be firing on all cylinders, graphics card profiles need to be assigned, the graphics cards need to be as identical as you can get them, there's a doubled risk of component failure, your motherboard needs to be compatible, your PSU needs to be bigger, your case needs to handle the heat of 2 graphics cards on top of CPUs, hard drives... the list is eventually exhaustible, but still long.

I love it. And here's why...

Just an update...

I bought an SSD. Corsair Force, 120GB, £170. Magic.

Sennheiser HD 215 Headphone Review

 Product Name: Sennheiser HD 215
Price: £70 (Down to £50 on Amazon, gogogo!)

Sexy, aren't they?

Well, it's my birthday today, and as such I was given money, and I bought myself a lovely lovely pair of Sennheiser headphones. After spending some time with them, comparing them against the various headphones I have around the house (including a pair of studio quality reference monitor 'phones) I think I am ready to give my verdict.

OMIGOSH AWESOME

Ahem. *Straightens smoking jacket, pats down slacks.*

Do you get what you pay for?

This post was inspired entirely by a recent dilemma of mine. Namely, my birthday.

I'm notoriously difficult to buy for, so my nearest and dearest usually just shower me with pictures of the Queen, and everyone's happy. This year, it gave me several options:

1) Clear off my student overdraft
2) Buy a new guitar
3) Buy an SSD

So, what did I do?

Razer Lycosa Mirror Special Edition Review

Product name: Razer Lycosa Mirror Special Edition
Price: 79.99€

What a mouthful, eh? From here on out, I will refer to this as simply the Lycosa Mirror, to keep things simple.

The Lycosa keyboards (and their little brother the Arctosa) take their names, like all other Razer keyboards, from spiders. The Tarantula was the first, and the upcoming BlackWidow. And here we have the Lycosa. I once googled that word and swore never to do so again, as it is an especially large, hairy and ugly spider. It's something of a testament to the quality of this keyboard, then, that an arachnophobe such as myself can use one of these on a daily basis (indeed, I am typing this review on it right now) and not be entirely repulsed based purely on the name. More after the jump...

Kindle 3: A Geek's Perspective

My girlie bagged a Kindle 3 the other day. Said she needed more books, but when I flat-out refused to sacrifice any more guitar space to add to the shelves (3 large ones and counting), she settled on this as a compromise.

She loves it - it's small, sleek, and means she can keep bothering my Facebook feed with quotes from the Raven.

As for me?

Razer Lachesis Review

Product Name: Razer Lachesis Wraith Red
Price at time of purchase: 69.99 (Direct from Razer)

Calm yerself down! This isn't a review of the new one with the fancy Tri-Colour LED, but it'll do. As I gather, the actual internal workings of both models are identical, aside from the higher DPI available on the newer revision, so this review will still hold water.

Razer are a company that have been making gaming mice for so long now, they must struggle for names. There are only so many snakes in the world. A quick Google of the word "Lachesis" tells me that Lachesis was the second of the three Greek Fates. But, this being Razer, I'm sure they were referring to the rather handsome pitvipers commonly known as Bushmasters. Wonderful.
